Epistemologies of the South

Is there such a thing as a global commons? How have we conceived of the 'Global South'? How has this so-called 'Global South' pictured itself. How, in Europe, and as museums, do we approach this topic in an increasingly-shifting political landscape?

In this Dialogue, Zdenka Badovinac, Jesús Carrillo and Patrick Flores addressed these concerns using a non-Western lens, based on the contexts in which they work (currently, Slovenia, Spain and the Philippines) and have worked. They discussed tactics that could be used by museums and artists, in order to create international dialogues that are equipped with the tools for equal agency.

They discuss alter-institutionality, the purpose of the 'research' institution and of research within the institution, and the role that informal groups or collectives have had in influencing the way in which museums operate. They call for a truly horizontal interdependency as the basis for a new institutionality.
