
Mujeres Públicas, Cajita de fósforos [Little Box of Matches], 2005.
Internacionala želi izraziti podporo pravici do razstavljanja dela Cajita de fósforos (2005) umetniške skupine Mujeres Públicas v sklopu razstave Really Useful Knowledge (Res uporabna znanja). Glede na niz pritožb, ki so letele na to delo s strani raznih skupin v zadnjih dneh, se nam zdi pomembno zavzeti stališče do teh napadov. Trditev, da delo Cajita de fósforos (Škatlica vžigalic) in posledično Museo Reina Sofía hujskata k požiganju cerkva, je pretirano poenostavljanje pomena in konteksta dela. Tako kot številna druga dela, vključena v razstavo Really Useful Knowledge, tudi Cajita de fósforos namiguje na transformativno in emancipacijsko moč nečesa majhnega in skromnega (kot je na primer škatlica vžigalic), kadar to razumemo v mreži subtilnih zgodovinskih referenc.
Internacionala izhaja iz prepričanja, da mora demokratična družba od svojih javnih muzejev pričakovati in zahtevati, da niso zgolj sredstva legitimacije in reprodukcije uveljavljenih diskurzov in pogledov preteklih in sedanje oblasti. Dejstvo je, da je na področju umetnosti in njenih institucij kljub sodobnemu predpostavljanju estetske avtonomije treba zagovarjati pravico do prisotnosti in do reprezentacije. Prav zato so si sodobne institucije zadale neizbežno poslanstvo, da so odprte do resnih disruptivnih argumentov, ki izpodbijajo obstoječi simbolni red. Temu imperativu smo zavezani, tudi če to pomeni majanje svojih lastnih temeljev in razkrivanje svojih lastnih protislovij.
Javni muzej ni niti mesto za uprizarjanje složnosti v svetu, ki ga pretresajo konflikti, niti kraj za nespoštljivo šokiranje občanov v prid avantgardnemu radikalizmu. Po našem prepričanju bi moral biti muzej prostor, kjer se zastavljajo vprašanja obiskovalcem, ki so prav tako subjekti, zmožni kritičnega razmisleka, in odprti za predloge v javni domeni. Najboljši muzeji bi morali biti kraji, kjer znanje nadomesti pasivno občudovanje, kjer presoja izpodrine predsodke in kjer delovanje prevzame mesto nemoči. Posledično bi morala družba kot celota zagovarjati in braniti muzej kot bistveni prostor, kjer demokratične družbe ne le razpravljajo o vsebini izražanja – za to obstajajo tudi drugi primerni forumi – , ampak tudi o pogojih, ki tako izražanje sploh omogočajo.
Delo argentinske skupine Mujeres Públicas, skladno s političnim bojem na določenem mestu ob določenem času, je del poglobljenega dejanja refleksije (v obliki učenja in kolektivne prakse) o volji in zmožnosti družb, da presegajo strukture, ki jih omejujejo.
Pri tem napadu na muzej in njegovo razstavo torej ne gre le za tradicionalno pravico do svobode umetniškega izražanja in za izjemno naravo muzeja kot prostora, v katerem je vse možno. Gre tudi za grožnjo bolj bistveni zmožnosti vzdrževanja družbe, ki se lahko sooči s problematičnimi pogoji v svojem neposrednem in v najširšem okolju ter o njih kritično razmisli preko svojih javnih institucij.
