Philippe Pirotte

Philippe Pirotte is a curator and educator based in Brussels, Belgium. He is an art history professor at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main and serves as an advisory board member of Artium, the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Basque Country. He was a member of the Documenta Commission, which selected ruangrupa as the artistic directors of Documenta Fifteen. He was co-artistic director (with Vera Mey) of Busan Biennale 2024, and he curated the survey exhibitions of Melati Suryodarmo at Bonnefanten Museum Maastricht (2022) and Yang Fudong at the UC Berkeley Art Museum (2013). He also organised the group exhibition 'Arus Balik. From Below the Wind to Above the Wind and Back Again' for the Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore (2019), and he was a member of the curatorial team of the Jakarta Biennale in 2017 and artistic director of the 2016 edition of La Biennale de Montréal, Canada.
