Sustainable Art Production. Research Residencies

The projects selected in the first call of the Sustainable Art Practice research residencies are A hores d'ara. Experiences and memory of the defense of the Huerta valenciana through its archive by the group of researchers Anaïs Florin, Natalia Castellano and Alba Herrero; and Fundamental Errors by the filmmaker and architect Mauricio Freyre.

The researchers of A hores d’ara project are activating the digital archive created in 2020 that encompasses the experiences and learnings of the people and groups that have defended the Huerta de Valencia during the last decades, focusing on the collection of visual materials produced by them. These series of activation will connect the different agents of the memory of these struggles, through oral histories and new visual documents, enhancing the generation of other possible stories.

In Fundamental Errors Mauricio Freyre uses fiction and fabulation as a decolonial tool, challenging the notion of the archive as a single narrative tracing and re-imagining voices and experiences that have been marginalized and erased to generate a critical genealogy from dissident perspectives, employing strategies and methodologies derived from film and installation. Engaging with a dialogue with the medicinal plan cinchona (quina) this project explores the radical changes that occur in institutions, policies and structures when we remember through forgotten and erased stories.

During the second half of the year, Museo Reina Sofía will open a second open call for Sustainable Art production projects aimed for artists and researchers whose practice addresses emergencies and challenges derived from the climate crisis.
